Have questions about the veneers procedure? Our cosmetic dentist in South Bend, IN, would be more than happy to help you explore your treatment options so you can achieve the smile of your dreams.

A veneer is a wafer-thin porcelain shell that we can bond to the front of a tooth to improve the appearance of your smile. Dr. Kosek may recommend porcelain veneers if you have front teeth with small chips, cracks, gaps, or stains that can’t be fixed with conventional teeth whitening.

Here’s what you can expect during the dental veneers procedure.

South Bend IN Cosmetic Dentist

Teeth Preparation

Dr. Kosek will need to remove a thin layer of enamel from the fronts of your teeth that will be receiving veneers. This ensures that there is adequate space for us to place the dental veneers over your teeth.

Next, we’ll take impressions of your teeth to send to the dental lab that will be making your new porcelain veneers. Our cosmetic dentist in South Bend, IN, will also use a shade guide to select the perfect color match for your new veneers. That way, your porcelain veneers will blend in with the rest of the teeth in your smile.

Since it takes time for the lab to create your veneers, we’ll place temporary veneers over your teeth. This will help protect your smile until you’re able to see us for your second appointment.

Veneers Placement

When you arrive for your second appointment, your permanent veneers will be ready for placement. Our South Bend cosmetic dentist will remove the temporary veneers from your teeth and replace them with the permanent ones.

Before bonding the veneers to your teeth, Dr. Kosek will ensure that your new veneers are the perfect size, shape, shade, and fit. This may involve making slight adjustments to the veneers so that they look and feel natural.

Once your new veneers are ready, Dr. Kosek will clean, etch, and polish the fronts of your receiving teeth. This ensures that your teeth will create strong bonds with the veneers.

For the final steps, Dr. Kosek will bond the veneers in place, remove any excess cement, and check your bite.

Aftercare

Dental veneers are durable and stain resistant. However, this doesn’t mean that you should neglect your oral hygiene. Continue brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once daily to maintain good oral health. Practicing good oral hygiene will also help prevent your veneers from staining so that you can continue to smile with confidence.

The average lifespan of porcelain veneers is about 10 years with proper care. The better you take care of your smile, the longer your veneers are likely to last. We also recommend that you continue to see our dentist for preventive care. During your routine checkups, Dr. Kosek will check the condition of your veneers and recommend replacements as needed.
